Creative Jellyfish Suncatcher
Make your own whimsical, glowing jellyfish suncatcher with UV resin! This easy 8-step guide walks you through the whole process, from shaping the dome to adding dreamy tentacles. Perfect for beginners and ocean-themed decor lovers.
✨Difficulty:★★☆☆☆
Crafting Time:1~2 hours
Material Preparation
Materials: High Viscosity UV Resin, Dichroic film, Organza ribbon, Thick balloon, Fish line(0.015in), Fairy light
Tools: Wireless UV Light
Protective Equipment: Always wear nitrile waterproof gloves, a waterproof apron, and a respirator for safe handling.
Environment Setup
Ideal Conditions: Maintain a temperature between 73–78°F with humidity no higher than 50–60% RH. UV resin should be stored and used in a dark place. Exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light can make it cure too quickly and harden before you’re ready.
Ventilation: Work in a well-ventilated area, ideally near a window or use an air purifier for better airflow.
Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
Shape the Jellyfish Head
Pour a small amount of UV resin over a balloon and let it flow naturally into a smooth dome shape.
Tip: Add the resin gradually to avoid drips.

Step 2
Cure the Resin
Use a wireless UV lamp to cure the dome. Repeat 2–3 times until it holds its shape. Once the outer layer is cured, gently remove the balloon and cure the inside for another 3 minutes.

Step 3
Ensure the Inside is Fully Cured
Always cure the inner surface after removing the balloon so it doesn’t stay sticky. Use thicker balloons, keep the UV lamp about 0.8 inch away, and rotate it evenly to prevent overheating or bursting.

Step 4
Add Iridescent Color
Cut dichroic (laser) film slightly larger than the dome and attach it to the inside.
Tip: Cut the film into a circle a bit larger than the dome, then make small radial cuts so it fits smoothly. Rounding the edges helps it lay flat.

Step 5
Make Jellyfish Tentacles
On a silicone pad, squeeze out curved strips of UV resin to create flowing tentacles. Cure until firm.

Step 6
Create Waves & Water Droplets
Draw wavy resin strings on a silicone pad and add tiny resin droplets to fishing line. Cure for 2 minutes, flip, apply another thin layer until slightly rounded, then cure for another 2 minutes.

Step 7
Assemble Your Suncatcher
Use clear tape or UV resin to secure the ribbon, raindrop chains, wave strands, and string elements inside the dome.

Step 8
Display Your Jellyfish
Your suncatcher is complete! Hang it in a sunny window to catch the light or use it as dreamy room decor. It also makes a thoughtful, handmade gift for any jellyfish lover.

Pro Tip
UV resin thickens in colder weather and may trap bubbles. Warm the bottle in 122°F water before use to restore its fluidity.
