How to Make an Epoxy Resin Tumbler

Workspace & Material Preparation

Control Resin Amount and Temperature
Proper resin amount and temperature are key to achieving a smooth, glossy surface. Uneven resin application can affect the overall texture and appearance of your tumbler.

2. Control Color Concentration

Step-by-step Instructions
Following the precautions above, here’s how to make your resin tumbler:
Step 1
Mix resin evenly at a 1：1 volume ratio. Add mica powder to adjust the color. Let the the resin warm up to 122–130°F (about 10–20 minutes) before pouring.
Tips: Do not exceed 5% pigment by volume, as it may prevent curing.
Step 2
Place your tumbler on a rotating cup machine. Spray a light layer of alcohol on the surface, wipe clean with a paper towel, and remove dust.
Step 3
Turn on the machine and pour a layer of clear resin, spreading it evenly by hand for smoother subsequent layers.
Step 4
Pour the mixed resin slowly along the cup wall, letting the colors gather naturally.
Step 5
Place a silicone tray under the tumbler to catch excess resin. Pour the topping resin onto the surface, ensuring every corner is covered. Let it cure for 12–24 hours.
Step 6
Excess resin can be reused to make a small tray. If the resin is too thick to spread evenly, gently heat it with a heat gun to level the surface. Don’t forget to attach a handle.
Step 7
After curing, apply a thin layer of clear resin on the tumbler to enhance gloss.
Tip: Let the resin warm up to around 113–122°F before applying the topping to ensure even coverage.
Step 8
Allow the resin to fully cure for 24 hours, then remove the tumbler from the machine. Your DIY resin tumbler is ready!
