Jewelry: Hollow Heart Earrings
Do you know you can make a beautiful hollow heart pendant using UV resin and gemstone molds? By understanding how different UV resins behave and combining them effectively, you can create a sparkling, transparent, diamond-like pendant. Let’s make it together!
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆
Production time: about 1 hour
Material Preparation
Materials: High-viscosity UV resin, regular UV resin, blue ink, jewelry molds, gemstone fillers, metal findings
Tools: Double-sided UV lamp, preheating machine, drill, sanding machine
Protective Equipment: Always wear nitrile waterproof gloves, a waterproof apron, and a vapor mask for safe handling.
Environment Setup
Ideal Conditions: Maintain a temperature between 73–78°F with humidity no higher than 50–60% RH.
Ventilation: Work in a well-ventilated area, ideally near a window, or use an air purifier for better airflow.
Precautions
| Issue | Solution | Illustration |
|---|---|---|
| Selection of UV resin | High-viscosity UV resin has lower fluidity and is ideal for creating raised, 3D effects in resin artwork. | ![]() ![]() |
Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
Pour high-viscosity UV resin into the gemstone mold until it reaches about 1/4 of the mold’s height.
Tip: Warm the high-viscosity resin in a preheater for about 15 minutes, let it cool to room temperature, and then use it. This helps reduce air bubbles when the resin is squeezed out of the bottle.

Step 2
Gently shake the mold back and forth so the resin evenly coats all inner surfaces.

Step 3
After the resin has spread evenly, quickly invert the mold onto a UV lamp. Cure for 1 minute, then flip it back upright and cure for another 2 minutes.
Tip: Inverting the mold helps prevent shrinkage lines and allows excess resin to drain out.

Step 4
Once cooled, remove the resin piece from the mold. Use sandpaper to smooth the edges of the heart-shaped shell. Repeat this process twice so you end up with two matching heart shells.
Tips:
- Cooling helps prevent fingerprints and deformation.
- Sanding ensures the two halves fit together seamlessly.

Step 5
Fill one heart shell with crushed glass or “broken diamonds.” Apply a small amount of UV resin along the edge of the shell, being careful not to touch the diamonds inside.

Step 6
Align the edges and place the second heart shell on top to form the complete hollow heart.

Step 7
Add blue ink to regular UV resin and mix well.
Tip: Regular UV resin has better fluidity, making it easier to blend colorants without creating bubbles.

Step 8
Dip a brush into the blue UV resin and apply it to the heart pendant - heavier at the top and lighter at the bottom - to create a gradient effect. Cure under a UV lamp for 2 minutes.

Step 9
Use a punch tool to make a hole, then install the eye pin or cleat nail.

Step 10
Use a sander to smooth the surface of the heart and brush away any excess dust afterward.

Step 11
Apply a thin, even coat of UV resin over the surface to give it a glossy, transparent finish. Cure for 2 minutes, attach your metal findings, and your beautiful hollow heart jewelry is complete
