Step-by-step Instructions
This technique can be a bit challenging, but by carefully controlling three key factors—resin temperature, the amount of mica powder, and curing time, you can achieve a delicate and beautiful rose effect.
Step 1
Mix epoxy resin thoroughly at a 1:1 volume ratio. Stir until the mixture is completely smooth and free of any stringy or silk-like appearance. Add the deep pink mica powder and mix well.
Tip: Use a generous amount of powder. If the resin looks translucent after mixing, the final texture and outlines may appear unclear.

Step 2
Pour the mixed resin into the mold and let it sit for 3–4 hours, until it thickens slightly. This is the ideal time to begin creating the pattern.
Tip: Keep the resin temperature at around 100°F (38°C). At this temperature, the resin maintains good fluidity, allowing the mica powder patterns to appear smooth and clean.

Step 3
After sitting for 3–4 hours, the pearlescent patterns will naturally gather toward the center, creating a clean surface design. Gently lift the resin with a toothpick. If the raised line does not retract within about 8 seconds, the resin is ready for painting.
Tip: If the texture disappears within 8 seconds, the resin is still too thin. Painting at this stage will cause the design to fade and won’t hold its shape.

Step 4
Before working on resin, practice the pattern on paper a few times. Once confident, begin drawing directly on the resin using a toothpick. Start from the center and move outward, gradually increasing the width and size of the petals to create a full, blooming rose.
Tips:
1. Complete the design in one continuous process. Avoid repeatedly adjusting the lines, as this can reduce the three-dimensional effect and make the pattern look messy.
2. Once finished, cover the tray to protect it from dust, which may cause unwanted surface imperfections.

Step 5
After allowing the tray to cure for 12 hours, sprinkle transparent acrylic beads around the edge for decoration.

Step 6
Pour a thin layer of clear resin over the surface to secure the beads and enhance the tray’s glossy finish.

Step 7
After 24 hours, the tray will be fully cured and ready to use. It’s perfect for holding necklaces or perfume on your dressing table, and it also makes a romantic handmade gift for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion.
