Mold Replication: Silicone Tree Trunk Candles
There’s something special about the natural patterns in wood. Every line and curve has its own character, and together they create the rustic beauty we love. With silicone mold-making, you can capture those details and turn a simple piece of wood into a candle that looks just like the real thing.
Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆
Crafting Time: About 1~2 hours
Material Preparation
- Materials: 15A translucent liquid silicone, silicone pigment paste, wood truck, hot melt glue, PVC sheet, candle dye, Paraffin wax, wick
- Tools: Stirring stick, large measuring cup, dropper
- Protective Equipment: Always wear nitrile waterproof gloves, a waterproof apron, and a mask for safe handling.
Environment Setup
- Ideal Conditions: Maintain a temperature between 73–78°F with humidity no higher than 50–60% RH.
- Ventilation: Work in a well-ventilated area, ideally near a window or use an air purifier for better airflow.
Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
Cut the wooden stick into small pieces of varying lengths.

Step 2
Mix your liquid silicone thoroughly at a 1:1 ratio by weight. Add a small amount of silicone pigment paste if you want to tint the mold, then blend until fully uniform.

Step 3
Secure the wood pieces inside a PVC mold housing using hot melt glue. Pour in the silicone and let it cure for about 6 hours.
Tip: Make sure the PVC walls are completely sealed with hot melt glue. Any gaps can lead to silicone leakage.

Step 4
Once the silicone is fully cured, remove the wood pieces from the mold.

Step 5
Prepare the candle wax color first. Add candle dye to create a dark brown shade, then use a dropper to apply the wax along the inner edges of the mold. Do not shake or move the mold - let the wax set completely. This step creates the deeper, shadowed areas of the bark texture.

Step 6
Pour light brown candle wax into the mold. Slowly rotate the mold so the wax coats the inside evenly. Let it set, then repeat this process 3–4 times to build up a uniform layer.

Step 7
Pour off-white candle wax into the mold. After about one hour, when the wax has partially solidified, insert the wick. Let the candle stand for an additional 4 hours until fully cooled and hardened.
Tip: Make sure the candle is completely solid before demolding. Removing it too early can cause tearing or deforming. If possible, use a fan or air conditioning to speed up cooling.

Step 8
Carefully demold your candle.

Step 9
Your tree-trunk candle is ready! It brings a warm, rustic vibe - perfect for autumn and winter decor. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make it uniquely yours or gift it to someone special. Tempted to try it? Go for it!

💡Pro Tip
Silicone thickens in cold weather. Before use, keep the silicone in a room around 78°F so it regains proper fluidity.
