Silicone Mold Maintenance Guide

Silicone molds are the essential tools for resin artists. Under normal conditions, molds withstand 10-15 times. However, improper storage can cause warping, aging, or yellowing, drastically cutting their lifespan.

Why Mold Maintenance Matters?
Common issues like deformation, yellowing, and surface clouding are mostly related to improper storage or usage habits. Mastering proper maintenance techniques can extend the life of your mold while ensuring the quality of your creations.
How to Store Molds Properly?
1. Keep It Flat
Store molds flat without stacking or compression. It's recommended to use tiered storage racks for storage.
2. Avoid Direct Sunlight
UV light will accelerate the aging of silicone and cause the molds to yellow and harden. When storing, choose cool, dry environments (e.g., drawers/sealed containers).
3. Prevent Dust & Moisture
Dust and moisture may affect mold. It is recommended to store the molds in a sealed bag or storage box.
Daily Use Precautions
1. Mold Cleaning Tips
Clean residual resin promptly after each use:
- Remove residual sequins or particles with tape.
- Spray with isopropyl alcohol and wipe with tissues to remove residual mica powder.
- Cover the baking soda with the uncured resin, knead gently, then wash with warm soapy water.
2. Avoid Sharp Objects
Never use sharp tools during demolding to prevent surface scratching.
3. Demolding Gently
Avoid tearing the mold with excessive force. It is recommended to use soapy water to assist demolding to avoid damage to the mold.
4. Resin Temperature Control
Avoid pouring overheated resin into molds or using high-temperature tools improperly, as high temperature accelerates silicone degradation.
Tips
- To repair fogging on flat-surface molds:
- Mix silicone rubber at a ratio of 1:1 by weight, pour a thin layer into the mold. After curing, the base reverts to a smooth, level finish.
- More Suggestions:
- The service life of all silicone molds is limited. Visible cracks, yellowing, internal fogging/whitening, or loss of elasticity indicate that the mold has exceeded its service life. Continued use will affect the quality of the resin pieces. It is recommended to replace the mold promptly.
