Solutions for Mold Deformation and TearingSolutions for Mold Deformation and Tearing

:zoomer:Silicone molds are trusted partners for resin artists. While their typical lifespan is 10-15 uses, improper demolding techniques or storage conditions may cause deformation. Welcome to dive into our detailed solutions guide!

 Why Do Molds Deform?

1. Improper Storage

Deformation will be caused by heavy objects compressing molds or long-term folded storage.

2. Improper Demolding Techniques

Forcibly tearing out uncured resin pieces will cause localized overstress, leading to mold tearing.

3. Material Aging

All molds have limited lifespans. When mold hardening/yellowing occurs, it means that the molds aged, which will lead to a decrease in the resilience of the mold, and it is easy to deform after use.

:shining: How to Prevent Deformation

1. Proper Storage

Avoid stacking or compressing molds. Store flat with light/dust/moisture protection. Recommended: sealed bags or layered storage racks. Keep them flat when storing them. Protect them from light, dust, and moisture. It's recommended to use layered storage racks or bags for sealed storage.

2. Correct Demolding Techniques

Avoid violent demolding. Use soapy water to help demolding.

3. Temperature Control

Do not pour overheated resin into molds. Avoid unscientific use of heat guns, lighters, or other high-temperature tools.

:tool:Mold Deformation Restoration Techniques

If deformation is not serious, you can also try these restoration techniques:

1. Minor Deformation

  • Edge Warping: Soak the mold in 158°F-185°F (70°C-85°C) water until it becomes soft. Use tape/sticks to support the curved part. Remove supports after 2-3 days.
  • Center Bulging: Soak the mold in the same temperature water until it becomes soft. Flatten the bulge under a heavy weight. Remove weight after 2-3 days.

2. Severe Deformation

Molds with cracks, yellowing, or loss of flexibility have limited restoration potential. It's recommended to replace the mold.
